PYGMALION's fourth annual community-wide hackathon

in·clu·siv·i·ty

noun

the practice or policy of including people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized, such as those who have physical or mental disabilities and members of minority groups.

PYGMALION presents a 48-hour community-driven virtual hackathon to develop solutions to problems of inclusivity.

In light of the global pandemic and recent events, we want to highlight problems that disproportionately affect people because of their age, gender, race, class, sexuality, disability or minority status within our community and around the world.

Now more than ever, it is our responsibility to think deeply about the problems affecting our communities and come up with novel solutions that promote equality of opportunity and help include those that are included or marginalized.

Judging Criteria

  • COMMUNITY BENEFIT
Does your hack provide a benefit to the greater Champaign-Urbana community (a non-profit organization, under-served population, etc.)? Does it improve access to opportunities to people and communities that might have been marginalized or excluded?
  • COLLABORATION
Does your team incorporate members from different communities, disciplines, skillsets, and/or specialities? i.e. professionals + students + designers + coders; or teams with developers + musicians + designers + dancers + videographers, etc.
  • DESIGN
Does your solution represent in a clear way the problem your team is trying to address? Is your solution human-centered and community-centric?
  • FUNCTIONING PROTOTYPE
Does your project have a functioning prototype that can be seen by judges? An app, website, device, etc that (at least) mostly works? If you're not coding out a prototype, a pitch that clearly describes how your system will function.
  • INNOVATION
Does your provide provide something new and exciting that doesn't already exist in some capacity? The more unique and creative, the better.
